In 2010, I was a pedestrian hit by a car. Ambulance ride was $1100. 8 days in hospital was $61,000. Follow up was $75 for each visit (every 2 weeks for 7 months). No insurance (before the ACA kicked in). This was in Austin, TX…so NYC is probably higher.

I was listening to a YouTube video today where someone said an ambulance in New York City can cost between $500 - $1000. Not sure if it's true or not, but my $50 ambulance trip seems pretty cheap compared to that.
