A long time ago, someone made this point about DL for images vs language. Basically, a lot of the initial DL breakthroughs came in images/vision because it turns out language is already pretty compressed! Eg, if I say "dog," you and I both imagine something pretty similar, even w/no additional info.

We also shouldn’t find ourselves surprised there are so few experts who are strongly in the camp of “meta caused harm”. Good luck when your quasi experimental approach hits reviewers whose SUTVA violating withdrawal experiments found nada. Faculty gig? It went to the former meta employee.
