I think popularity is interesting for, say, people starting out on their reading journey, but imho it doesn't have much long term value. I believe the magic is something like "people in your network (and beyond), who have shared interests, say they loved this this" but that's a big assumption

Thank you Paul! I'm trying to find a path to recommendations based on "what you already like" to *go deeper into known niches*, and then "what people like you like" to *uncover new opportunities*. I think my current thinking is VERY under-developed and I'd love to hear more of your feedback.
