but the whole goddamn premise of trek--yes, including TOS--is that with science, reason, teamwork, faith, honesty, openness--all those old-fashioned liberal virtues--you can overcome these horrifying obstacles, overcome violence, overcome war and destructions
Show Postwhat latter-day trek failed to *believe*--and this starts with abrams imo--is that all that peace and diplomacy stuff actually works "oh all the talking is cute, it's Right, but it's actually just a cute little luxury, at the end we must resort to Force"
Show Postthe thing i come back to, over and over--which stuff like LOWER DECKS got, and so much other latter-day trek has forgotten--is that the whole idea of trek is that they exist in a genuinely horrifying universe, but *choose* to pursue peace and diplomacy anyways... and it works.
Show PostI always tell people, Lower Decks is the New Trek show that most GETS Star Trek. It believes in respect, understanding, curiosity and hope. The crew actually like each other. Most problems are solved through diplomacy. And it’s reverential to canon, but delights in the silliest parts.
Show PostI really look forward to seeing what’s in the agreement!
