I realize most of these require publishing to admit there's egg on its face, but every single one is an actionable suggestion. There is a way out. There are obviously multiple ways out; they're just not as easy as blaming writers for the whole catastrophe that is the modern publishing industry.

- blanket reject everything that's been waiting for more than 3 months just so writers & agents aren't left hanging, or - contact everyone who's been waiting for more than 3 months and ASK if they'd like to continue waiting, with a REALISTIC timeline provided

I don't think the major fail point here was the writers. OP agrees the situation is unacceptable but takes zero industry responsibility for an issue that only they can fix. There are ways out. Publishing could: - hire more people - announce actual acquisition freeze until inbox zero is achieved
