I am writing a column about what we do now about or with Britain's history of Empire - not only abroad in the Commonwealth, but at home too. Your insights and thoughts are welcome www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Show PostSuella Braverman says slavery abhorrent - but the British people of the 21st century aren't responsible for the wrongs of the past. "Let’s also not forget the role Britain played in ending slavery" then seem illogical: the British people of the 21st century can't be responsible for that either!
Show PostReparations aren’t force-fake apologies. The slavery industry wasn’t symbolic. It still has consequences. 21st C Britain didn’t participate in slavery, but continues to benefit from its wealth. Make reparations monetary. And, don’t patronise the Souths.
Show PostI hate eighteenth centuryist Halloween. What do you mean you’re Mary Tofts, the English woman who, in 1726, convinced the medical establishment that she gave birth to rabbits.
Show PostGeneration Z, young people born between 1997 and 2012, have every reason to rise up and revolt. We've given them climate change, wars, authoritarianism, lives dominated by corporations and high tech, unbearable social pressures, dead-end jobs and a lack of housing. We've robbed them of hope.
