I had one teen a number of years ago who was driven to tears because I handed out fruit snacks shaped like Winnie the Pooh characters. He was so happy to get a pouch with Tigger and didn't care that his friends saw him.

It makes no sense to police trick or treating when its the country's only structured community building event. Oh, a neighbor was brave enough to ring my doorbell? Better make sure they don't want to strengthen their social ties.

I will never understand why people don’t give teenagers candy. Who fucking cares? The ones who come to my house tend to be super polite and excited to get candy from us, which makes me wonder if some people in my neighborhood are the assholes you speak of.
