I tried played NES Ninja Gaiden once in my late thirties and it's unreal how unforgiving those NES platformers got. Rental-driven difficulty is real. I've got a VHS home recording of me at like 7 years old and tearing through that game, my face smiling wide and never farther than 4" from the CRT.
