i was lucky, too. wearing a whimsical costume in a hospital is tempting the fates to make something horrifically tragic happen and then you're desperately scrubbing kitty whiskers off your face in the bathroom but they're still visible as you go out to tell the family "we did all we could, but..."

actually got a laugh out of a kid dressed as a stormtrooper by saying he was “a little short for a stormtrooper,” I had almost given up on any children ever getting it
