I feel like any time there's any sort of criticism of e621 or other booru art aggregators there's always a couple of people who are like "but think of all of the artwork that will become lost media if we don't use it" and like, as an artist, I'm not actually all that sympathetic to that logic

I don't think the public is entitled to forever archives of artists' works. I think art is a conversation, and not everyone is interested in being catalogued like a shareware ROM or an ad from the 70's, at least not if the sentimental observer isn't willing to preserve that work themselves.

at the very least, if you want some sort of "community-based collection", you can't rely on an arm of a corporate entity (of which e621 in particular very much is) to serve as it just because it's convenient to you
