Rest assured I was paid appropriately by Xe for the Anubis mascot, but genuinely the biggest reward is seeing so many people enjoy my work. I put a lot of thought into how people might respond emotionally to the Anubis challenge page image, and I'm happy it's had such a positive impact.
Show PostAny kind of interruption from your browsing experience is a high-stress situation. Modal popups on modern websites are bad enough, but Anubis is a full-screen interruption. The mascot is, in fact, load-bearing to defuse this tension. I personally recommend people don't replace it because of this.
Show PostFor example, the 'error' variant of the mascot. By definition, you're only going to see this by mistake. Bots don't care. So the expression I went for was more surprise than anything else, rather than, like, exaggerated crying or anger. Also fun fact this was based on a bocchi expression.
