The last time a similar size country was invaded and occupied was Germany, which the Allies invaded with around 10 million troops. In Japan, where the final occupation occured without a fight, the Allies still sent a million. Iran's terrain is more difficult than both.

Saying that a ground invasion would take > 1M is probably correct, doesn't mean Trump/Hegseth won't say 'bullshit we don't need that many' and do it anyway with fewer troops (and likely fail, effectively feeding troops to the wood chipper).

I'm not saying a ground invasion is gonna happen. What I'm saying is don't discount the fact that at no point in this conflict does it seem the regime has a fully thought out plan/endgame and they have continually overestimated the effectiveness of their actions.
