The goal of rewilding (decentralizing) the interent is that we want fungible services that when combined together can be more resilient than any enclosable, centralized service. I consider it an anti-pattern to tightly couple an app to any given content service (appview).

A best practice in the atmosphere I’d like to see is for this to become an orderable list with automatic fallback instead of selecting a single index. No reason we cant make this experience seamlessly resistant.

Saw this comment yesterday and it seemed so obvious that we immediately added a cascading fallback interface for every #atproto service that rpg.actor uses, which makes it easy to add more providers. If one goes down, it moves to the next one! Feels good knowing @bad-example.com is our failsafe. 😊
