In a happy surprise the doc says I don’t have a genetic disposition for heart disease (lipo protein-a). Well I guess that’s something.

What's more likely is that all expertise in maintaining it will be lost one day, and those in charge will be reluctant to maintain or certify the track as safe and it will be booked out of service.

And I understand it, this short section has been retained and preserved as an historical artefact. It's great to see it being actively used.

You're right. But not completely right. It's not bullhead rail, it's even older double-headed rail. We never had bullhead rail in Australia. As far as I know, this short section of track in the car sheds at Ballarat station is the only remaining section of double headed rail in use in Australia.
