And it also ignores that this was mutual. The SPD, while actively working with the freikorps, had declared an internal doctrine that marxism-leninism was a form of fascism and therefore would not work with the communists in the early 20s. The SPD banned the RFB but not right wing militant wings.

Like this is genuinely just some post hoc stuff. Nolte aligned the SPD in 1918 before even the Spartacists had properly organised, by the time of the formation of the communist party the SPD had been in the communist murdering business for years.

They teamed up with the freikorps to kill their political left before the kpd had even been formed and did not stop until the freikorps and the stahlhelm aligned with nazis in power.
