To be clear: the prequels have clear massive fucking downsides in horrendous dialogue and wooden acting. Apologia for 3 is most widespread and most unjustified. But a lot of the obvious casuals ginning up unjustified ragebait and congealing consensus stuff of the last decade was happening then.

I absolutely guarantee you that fervent "prequel apologia" didn't emerge randomly in the 2010s. Every single thing on those hit youtube essays were standard fucking talking points on fan forums during the films. This is not a Charlie Brown had hoes situation. People loved those films at the time.
