In a more apples to apples comparison, I'm struck by how they kinda walked away from the Collins pay to play story, which IIRC was a Times/ProPublica joint effort.
Show PostIndeed. Thing is, someone should do a deep dive into all the times the NYTimes has pulled similar crap, and see if all those incidents have a similar thread. I'd be willing to bet they do - & I'm also willing to bet the NYTimes execs do NOT want someone else to investigate their interference.
Show PostJamo's point about the bylines is the critical indicator here. When the Times decides they really want to juice a story, they assign multiple reporters to it - in this case, NINE - which produces a torrent of articles, which then convinces everyone else in the media that this is a Really Big Deal
Show Postif nothing else you can take away from this, it's that the NYT knows exactly how to do "full court press" coverage to create and push a scandal and chooses not to do it to Trump or to Republicans, even when their own reporters uncover ("exclusive!") something damning
Show PostEverything I’ve learned about the fiancé of a candidate who lost a primary in a state I don’t live in has been against my will.
