Titchfield Haven: vocal Siberian Chiffchaff by west entrance, plus other highlights of Firecrest, 24+ Golden Plover, Greenshank, 8+ Common Darter still, and at least 2 Marsh Harriers about. #LowCarbonBirding #HantsBirds
Show PostFeels like months of incessant, wet, westerlies- a wretched autumn locally on patch in terms of migrant passerines with barely a Blackcap or Willow warbler to be found. I'm having to make the most of the resident raptors and a newly arrived herd of Whooper swans. #Highlandbirds
Show PostBirding in Cornwall was really hard work this time. I don’t think I found anything better than Black Redstarts and Firecrests. I stopped off to see Buff-breasted and Baird’s Sandpipers on the way down and the Ring-necked Ducks near Penzance were nice but the valleys were almost devoid of migrants.
Show PostA brilliant day out in Norfolk with Nutcracker becoming my 550th British tick, and a back up corking Desert Wheatear. #RarebirdsUK
Show PostI was off Shetland for a couple of days when the Chestnut Bunting appeared but thankfully it hung around for me to enjoy its subtle beauty yesterday afternoon. Today, in somewhat testing conditions, this pod of 6 Orca put on a monochromatically magnificent display just 5 minutes from home.
