Two things are true: 1. Claims about AI capabilities are overblown 2. AI has completely revolutionized software development, and will do the same to many other fields I'm a software developer by trade. I'm going to attempt to explain what this revolution feels like "from the inside".
Show PostAs someone deeply opposed to technofascism and the social changes that AI is being used as a political lever for, and has been writing code and working in and around the tech industry for the last 24 years, this thread does accurately describe how software engineering has changed in the last year.
Show PostFunny how 'soft skills' keeps getting rediscovered as the hard part every few years.
Show PostI worked in engineering (as a Marketing Manager) from about 2010 and everyone agreed on the need for better communication, project management and 'soft' skills, not just hardcore Maths and technical engineering. Came up over and over again, including in professional standards.
Show PostCertainly used to be the case. In engineering schools today, especially computer science, they're more likely to think of themselves as temporarily embarrassed entrepreneurs. Source: 20y as a CS academic.
