Once aggregators laundered it (and GOP pollster Quantus herded onto it the next day), McMorrow's internals didn't matter. As she laid out after the hoax broke, her donations dried up overnight and journos called demanding she drop out. Six days later, on July 5, she suspended her campaign.
Show PostThen on June 29, "Wedgewood Polls" dropped a survey claiming Stevens jumped to 39% and McMorrow crashed to 9%, with 6% undecided. It also had Stevens tying Republican Mike Rogers 46-46 while McMorrow lost 41-48. NYT, Silver Bulletin, DDHQ, and FiftyPlusOne all ingested it.
Show PostIn mid-June, McMorrow had to fight off a junk Mitchell poll (6%) run on an open SurveyMonkey link. Still, real late-June polls (including El-Sayed's *own* Tulchin internal and Peak) had El-Sayed at 39-46%, Stevens at 27-28%, and McMorrow at 17-18%.
Show PostIt's *wild* that the late June poll that helped kill Mallory McMorrow's Senate campaign in Michigan and made Haley Stevens look like she'd consolidated the anti-El-Sayed lane was literally cooked up in a spreadsheet by online trolls.
Show Postif i had a nickel for every time someone released a fake poll and then later declared it was a social experiment i would... well i'd have more than two nickels, which is kind of nuts
