"Something like that." Stede smiles and holds the door open. "Do I look bad?" Bad. Fucking bad? The silk tie is cornflower blue and Ed kind wants to wrap it in his fist to pull Stede into a kiss. "Ah. Nope, no, just... fancy." He croaks and Stede's smile grows. "You coming?" He asks playfully.

Stede gets out to open the door like a gentlema. Ed stares. "The fuck you wearin'?" Ed blurts out, can't fucking stop it. Because Stede is in a sleek, pale blue suit. Stede goes still and flushes. "I..ah..have a meeting at work." "For Lyft?" Ed manages, tries not to stare. Holy hell.

Monday morning and Ed wakes up at five. Fucking kid at Christmas. He buzzes with excitement as he gets ready and hits the Lyft app to see Stede's already on his way. He feels lighter, a little floaty, a little more like Ed. Who he wants to be. And when the blue SUV rolls up he touches his pocket.

That evening he knows he should get fucking work done, but he doesn't. He takes himself to a movie, buys overpriced snacks. He laughs a little too loud and afterwards takes his bike on a long moonlight drive. Remembers being alive once. Remembers being happy. Remembers Ed.

Sunday, Ed gorges on pastries. And look, he wasn't TRYING to eat them all, but maybe he ate one for breakfast. Then lunch. Maybe he has a god damn sweet tooth, but it makes him laugh. It feels like being a kid with Halloween candy. Sickly sweet and stuffed belly, watching cartoons in his jim jams.
