For AO3 users: if I am correct (and it does fit what they've said publicly), the risk to you is exactly what they've already announced, and the steps you should take are what they recommend: change your password anywhere else on the internet if it's the same as your AO3 password.

I do not want to publicly give details while they are still in the remediation phase, but I have a strong suspicion I have identified the root cause of the AO3 vulnerability that led to the downtime, and even if it isn't it's a thing other people running the software should know about.
