When you're.'gluten-free' or NGCI for better legalese, the cafes that make a big, delicious gf cake instead of offering miserable factory flapjacks or brownies are treasures! Sarah-Jaynes in Chippenham had gf coffee and walnut cake today. 😋 Some days tempted by the all-day full English, gf option.

The UK Old Age Pension Triple Lock was introduced to correct pensioners' slide towards poverty. When world sanity returns, prices will become static for a while as wages rise to restore living standards. The waged will be better off. But pensions, unhooked from wage increases, will get left behind.

Eventually, as banks lent out banknotes they didn't have the real metal value of, and the national bank just printed as many as were needed, the government made a law saying the banknotes didn't have to have real metal to back them up, as the banks and the national bank could be trusted. 5.🧵

More and more I.O.U.s went I to circulation. When borrowers wanted large quantities of money, the banks handed them I.O.U. banknotes instead of coins. These were easily forged, so a national bank standardised the banknotes, so they came in set denominations (values) for all banks to use. 4.🧵
