i really dislike this constant tendency amongst journalists to defend stories like this in the abstract. this story and the NYT’s coverage of it is like many other times the NYT has chosen to make mundane politics stories into almost exclusively dem scandals immediately before an election

it actually is making me a little crazy to see people treat “got a guy with the same name to get on the ballot” as the height of scandal. people have used more cutthroat tactics to win student council seats!

*Americans* are not that much more racist than other people. But *America* is much more racist than any other country on earth. 🙂🙃 If *the voters* were this anti-fascist in any normal country, fascism wouldn't have a chance. But our system is *intentionally weighted* to boost anti-Black votes.
