I had the wonderful good fortune to become friends with Patrick Stewart & his wife Sunny. As so many obituaries and remembrances are attesting, he was indeed, generous, kind & hilarious - in addition to being a titan of stage & screen. Love from my family to his.

In Jean Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart was a lot of people’s model of what it might be to be a good man, a TV dad to men I know whose own dads didn’t give them much, or anything. He knew he was doing that because his own dad hadn’t been much of a man.

Patrick Stewart story: Night before my GCSE Chemistry, I waited for Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart backstage after Waiting For Godot. Patrick asked what’s in my bag, I told him about my exam. So Stewart and McKellen told the Green Room to “shush” as they both tested me on the Periodic Table. RIP
