From what I've seen I think most people aren't upset simply that people are downloading fics or sharing fics they've downloaded but that people are uploading them to other sites. Like sending a fic to your friends is fine but don't publish other people's fics on other websites, if that makes sense

Still baffles me when people are shocked that I am in my thirties. People I have crow's feet, beginning of wrinkles, and I am starting to have white hair. I could not be more stereotypically in my thirties what 😭

Downloading has always been a feature

I mean… people were already sharing fics that vanished to begin with. Sooo their point is moot. I don’t really get it. They can’t profit off of it. They can gain notoriety for it. But once it’s online there’s no promise it won’t be spread or be stolen/claimed by someone else.

People are upset that fics get downloaded? I actually didn’t know the feature existed until a few years ago. Now I download all completed fics because I discovered over the years some authors will just delete them randomly. Either because of a mental health crisis, embarrassment, or whatever.
