In college, I studied Japanese and spent a summer living in Japan, primarily in Tokyo (pics below). That was more than 15 years ago. Haven’t been back since. This weekend, Ryan and I head out on a three-week trip through Japan to celebrate our ten year anniversary. We could not be more excited!
Show PostThat, in a nutshell, is the empirical part of the paper. The theoretical part of the paper is probably even more exciting. There, we turn to computational learning theory and show that a quantity known as *regret* is the appropriate measure for the cost of selection.
Show PostTo account for this, we extended Kimura's model to including fluctuating environmental conditions, and defined the *mismatch load* as the fluctuating selection analogue of substitution load. Substitution load is then simply the special case of mismatch load with constant fitnesses.
