I think people who say you should write fanfiction for yourself, don't understand that writing something and sharing it online are two different things. You can write for your own enjoyment and then just keep it yourself. If you want someone to share, you have to let them know or they stop sharing.

ive said it before and I'll say it again, writers are THE backbone of fandom!!! they deserve a lot more respect for the work they contribute for FREE for other fans to enjoy!!!! I don't think it's that outrageous for them to feel upset abt re-uploads w/o permission or ask for comments on their fics

Honestly the lack of engagement is one of the reasons I stopped posting fics. I've got a lot of half written or started things that I just never got motivated to even start sharing because of how bad it's gotten over the years. If no one is reading why bother sharing? I end up keeping it to myself.
