the chemistry is pretty simple. the electrolyte is the dissolved aqueous salts of ammonium chloride, also known as sal ammoniac. it's the same stuff used to tin soldering iron tips, and flavor the salty liquorice (salmiak) popular in nordic countries.

And there's always the reverse polarity d sub connector! These were used in 1960s era avionics. Ostensibly, the sockets in the plug were less susceptible to damage than having pins in the plug. I purchased the connector on the right in 2023 to mate to the one on the left. It. was. not. cheap.

The Macintosh Double Plus was designed to be twice as good as its predecessor - it featured double the pixels, width, floppies, and a pair of 8Mhz 68010 CPUs. Its planned successor, the Double Plus Good with a pair of 16Mhz CPUs was thrown down the memory hole. Pridecauseful.

The Power Macintosh G6E was terrible. It was twice the width and twice the weight of a regular all-in-one G-series Power Mac, and most collapsed under their own weight. Left to their own devices, many popped out of existence into tiny black holes that quickly evaporated.
