Haven't heard that before. I know, with may blossom, some ppl think it smells like death/decay – again, poss there's a link with the idea of færie as the pre-Christian dead. (They live(d) in the old burial mounds, hollow hills.)

Ralph Miliband's "Parliamentary Socialism" (1961) is imo a super valuable, weirdly fresh (for being written late 50s!) treatment of how Labour history has repeated to the detriment of the left. IMO a must read for people who want to salvage legacy of Attlee, Bevan, etc, inside or outside of Labour.
