This reminds me of how esp Turkish & Moroccan migrant workers in Belgium used to get seen as untrustworthy, because they would drive these sturdy, expensive cars (esp Mercedes!). Of course, they invested less in their houses (which were by Belgian standards *sparse*) but invested… 1/

…in their car, the thing they would drive to meet their friends/family either in Europe, or by road & boat in Turkey/Morocco (both lands so vast you need a good car to get around!) The (racist) reflex used to be “how can they afford such an expensive car on factory pay?”. Priorities! 2/2
