This painting started the modern idea of the haunted house. When Edward Hopper painted "House by the Railroad" he was inspired by an old Second Empire Victorian mansion. Houses like that were outdated and abandoned. This painting would inspire the Bates home in Psycho, and the Addams Family manor.
Show PostI talked about it before, but as I kid my first console was a NES that I got from my cousins, and one game I was terrified of was Shadowgate. Looking back it wasn't that scary (really hard tho), but between me not grasping English that well, and that death screen, I couldn't look at the screen.
