Recently been near discussions where very senior faculty both mentioned using AI for basic "asking it" type tasks AND emphasized their refusal to use reference managers or qual analysis software (both basically fancy databases w/ good UI). How are folks deciding what types of digital tools to use?

That's disturbing, in a harbinger sense. This morning at a remote conference, one speaker's preso was fully genAI images and video but he only mentioned that in passing. And he said "AI is cheap" (ignoring externalities of course).
