A reminder for my cautious friends: by October’s end  everyone is accustomed to everywhere seeing skeletons and ghosts coffins and tombstones, but please understand none of those sights reminds people of their own mortality more than you in an N95 mask does.

Dutch cyclist Esmée Peperkamp, 29, has Long COVID, POTS and post-exertional malaise (PEM). Even minor physical or mental effort can trigger extreme fatigue, breathlessness, chest pressure, headaches and stomach problems up to 48 hours later. She has RED-S, low hormones and no periods since 2021.

After a peak in September and a slow decline, Covid numbers appear to be increasing again, an unusual pattern for this time of year. The Midwest is the only region that is still relatively low numbers, the other regions are all med-high.
