Xanthandrus comtus is a migratory hoverfly, and there have been several UK records this week, ranging from the Isle of Wight to Edinburgh. I was pleased to spot a female of this erratic immigrant in my S. Cambridgeshire garden today. #FlydayFriday #Hoverflies #Syrphidae #Diptera

Common Pierrot and another Pierrot species (possibly Little Tiger Pierrot/Blue or Striped Pierrot). Both seen flying together with other small blues near Tadoba NP.

Verifying observations on iRecord & iNaturalist and wow, there's lots of feral Eagle Owls around Britain. Also, England's clearly got a new parrot on the verge of establishing, if not already: Alexandrine Parakeet. Like a very butch Ring-necked Parakeet, with red shoulder patch. They're breeding.

Woohoo, well done everyone. The Wood White is actually one of the easiest of the rare UK species to conserve. Just open up those woodland rides. Simples! But it still takes money and determination
