There is something cozy about most Halloween specials, especially for nostalgic reasons. Grinch Night is a big ol Nope on that front. Grinch is gonna get ya, indeed! Dr Seuss and all his ghoulies are going to give you nightmares, one way or another.

It is absolutely a slow burn. The 17 minutes leading up is just marination, foreplay even, for that moment. I like to think attention spans worked different back then but as folks who have been watching it for 30+ years, the "Grinching" is still an outstanding cavalcade of anxiety and even terror.

It absolutely slams. Its a little sloggy in the first act because the dialogue is really clunky, but I view it as a statement on apathy and ignorance so it tracks that Whoville is a frightfully dull, beige place. But once the Grinch makes the scene, it just goes ham. Conried is best Grinch.
