Genuinely very funny that the two best Trek things to happen in recent memory are The Orville and Lower Decks, both ostensibly comedies, both of which get Star Trek infinitely better than any other contemporary Trek offerings

It is very hard to read it any other way when you take one of the most iconic episodes of a decades-spanning series, with a message of "the Other is just like us, they are people too," and go "lol what if they were xenomorph rapemonsters though, what if the only good alien is a dead alien?"

The Gorn in SNW are so bloodthirsty stupid that they'll fly their spaceships into rocks if you flash the right light codes at them (they communicate by space semaphore), and they love to eat people and infect them with their filthy alien blood that makes chestbursters pop out of them
