The point of the statement is "I do not need candidates on the left to sell me on their platform, *I JUST NEED THEM TO NOT CROSS A BOLD, RED LINE IN MORALITY*. We're so deep in hell that people will argue with voters while acknowledging they cannot and will not hold candidates to basic decency.

It is so weird to me watching people struggle to recognize that "I will vote for candidates on the left" is naturally going to carry an asterisk like "unless I believe they are morally irredeemable or a danger to those I care about." Duh. Obviously. Yet still I watch people act like it's a gotcha.
