This is not exclusive to indie btw, I love my indie authors, I just have very rarely seen trad publishers approving GenAI covers/illustrations. They are definitely out there but I imagine the few I've seen have sneakily slipped through the cracks and are harder to nail as Definitely AI generated

There are so many resources that are free that you can choose instead of GenAI. Photography is a big one if you do it yourself! You can even simply do cool typography We say don't judge a book by its cover, but still inevitably do so (including myself). Using GenAI is shooting yourself in the foot
