zombie island specifically depends on the fake monsters-as-norm for a lot of its tension to work, but also some of my favorites in the series are the ones with Real Monsters (Witch's Ghost, Zombie Island) but also like the whole idea of the Enemy Was Capitalism is why I'm still so fond of the series
