We’ve been working on this all month. He wanted to be a borb. I helped with design and building the cardboard sphere and hemisphere with beak. We painted and decorated it together. I literally designed it so I was sure it could fit through the narrow doorways in our house.

The National Museum of American History has an exhibit right now on Filipino American history. The exhibit includes the finely tailored suits that Filipino immigrants bought using money they earned as agricultural laborers in California. Georgetown professor Erwin Tiongson discusses this here:

Talk in the barber’s was of football, Uxbridge, forgotten pubs and lottery wins. An old bloke says ‘You want to listen to Ian; he’s on Radio 5 at 4 o’clock on a Sunday’ and I said, ‘No, it’s Radio 4 at 5 o’clock on a Sunday’ A bloke said ‘No wonder I’ve not heard thi!’

If a sewing machine is too big a gift, you can also go with a zipper repair kit. My husband has salvaged *so* many items, including most recently my big winter parka, with a $12 zipper saving me at least $100 on a new coat.
