Scholars should not be barred UK entry because of their views on Palestine. I stand with @versobooks.bsky.social in urging the government to restore Andreas Malm's electronic travel authorisation immediately & allow him entry into the country to attend the UK’s Historical Materialism conference.

This is outrageous - ‘not conducive to the public good’?! I can think of few things that would be more for the good of the public than if more people engaged with Andreas’s humane, thought-provoking work. What chilling censorship.

Statement from @versobooks.bsky.social : "Never in over 55 years of publishing has a British government revoked the right of one of our authors to enter the country."

"We can only assume, since no reasons have been given for banning him, that it is Andreas’s positions on Palestine, no different from the ICC and UN commissions, is the cause. Only a weak and cowardly government seeks to curb dissent in this fashion."
