How far can a metal surface influence a chemical bond? Surprisingly far: up to around 10 nanometers! Researchers from our institute and the Center for Quantum Nanoscience (QNS) within the IBS Seoul show that distant atomic steps on platinum can change how strongly molecules bind to the surface.
