27 +DC for me. Most time without staying overnight: Maryland and Alabama, though neither were very significant

I DID sleep overnight in OR (It is INSANE that I've never lived in Portland for a year, but I have not). I PRETTY SURE I've slept in most all the other states. Or played rugby there (for VT and CT and whatnot).

I had to do three things in TX: 1) See Port Arthur, bc I had worked in oil for several years 2) See a friend in Austin and eat 3) Drive by Lubbock (I lived with a woman from Lubbock and another from Peoria in college and we joked which of those two plus Poway was worst)

My sole Texas visit was for a Hindu-Jewish wedding, so I think I know the state pretty well.
