My son (11) really wants to build a PC, historically that would have been a fun little project/educational experience for him Checking parts, compatibility, drivers, OS, etc - through to him installing/running a game on ‘something he built’ Arseholes like Sam have made that almost impossible

Honestly this explains the whole millennial "deal" just as much as the onset of the Internet does. "Fuck it, we have no safety net anyway, might as well just make weird art and party with our friends" worked out exactly as well for us as it did for my friends who got serious degrees, so 🤷

I call it the Katy Perry/Lin-Manuel Miranda 'Long arc of history' axis of 2010-2015, culminating in the Obergefell decision, and collapsing into a seething pit of racism and fascist cruelty. It didn't exist if you didn't rebound from the '08 crash or kept paying attention to Obama-era politics.
