I think there’s something to be said about the way the first game’s convolutions and tone are intrinsically linked to the kids ages, too. KH1 and Sora’s idea of the world is so blurry and full of emotion. As the kids age and the series progresses, the world has more detail/reason, but less magic.

As someone who didn’t have nostalgia and played it for the first time a few years back, boyyy is this true 🗿 It is such a frustrating game to play, which is a bummer because everything else is so charming!

Just received my copy of A Profound Waste of Time. Featuring my piece on Atari Tipperary’s unlikely history, with truly gorgeous illustrations. As a kid I always dreamed of writing for video games magazines. Thrilled to have a story about my home county’s role in the history of the medium.
