I agree it's become rather ugly. I believe it's frustration at the lack of funding for research. Both Biden & Trump minimized Covid & LC for political reasons. Some LC people point to the dearth of ME funding & believe conflation will do the same for LC funding. The conference name lit the fire.

it's also worth noting how many ppl " in charge" kept pushing to treat covid like the flu (which it isn't), but then refuse the general population access to boosters &/or yearly vaxxes (in N Eur) for covid. In sweden, never even allowing kids access to it.

Not only do we keep trying to revert to 2019 but we keep trying to revert to 1918 too. But come 1919 mechanisation had progressed until we were part of a globally interconnected biosphere. There was no going back
