A church I want to visit is at Monks Kirby near Rugby. The first church was dedicated to a local Saxon saint, Editha of Polesworth. Normans rebuilt it as a Minster & dedicated it to St Mary and St Denis. After the 100 Years War the name was too French so it was rededicated to St Edith as it is now.
Show PostA church we visited on a recent walk (argh! Medieval but "rebuilt" by the Victorians) was St Esprit. It's the only Anglican church with that name. But saint means holy, Esprit means spirit, and of course there are plenty of RC churches named after the Holy Spirit
Show PostSimilarity, I grew up with the idea of the Holy Ghost rather than the Holy Spirit. And some people have tried to make a theological thing of it…but I really think it’s just about language. The Anglo-Saxon was strong in my upbringing.
Show PostNot a Trekkie beyond the first series with Shatner but he was great in Extras.
