Interesting! That was published six months after a hit piece against Seldes, written by Eugene Lyons and published in Plain Talk. 1947 was an important year in the rightward shift of structural press criticism, which involved redbaiting Seldes. More in my book: cup.columbia.edu/book/making-...

Whoa. This misquotes Federalist 70, which says "Energy in the Executive is a leading character in the definition of good government" not "Energy in the Executive is the leading character in the definition of good government." There's a big difference in meaning there, and it is also just sloppy.
