You see this with nationalism as well - we think of some countries as more "real" because they've been around "longer" than others (for my own sanity, I'm not naming any). People want essentialist explanations - the idea there's something foundational outside of "social construction"

I really think that sometimes we have very intense feelings about a thing, and so we want that thing to have an intensely biological, neurological explanation, because we feel that is a more "real" and substantive concern than explanations about our experiences of motivation, belonging, anxiety, etc

Dude never apologized though and the episode was classic 90s. I mean Brahms apologized for some reason! Still, I took from the episode: don’t do that! Would love to see a modern series do a similar episode differently and wonder if one has.

In the end, it is one severe mark against Geordi in a seven-season series where he's otherwise a helluva guy and has an emotionally close relationship with another male-presenting character, Data.

The whole episode was a lesson about something not to do to a woman. And in the end the guy who did the creepy thing felt bad about it. Hence, it was something learned from as a youth about masculinity. Episode woulda been different and better if not written in the 90s tho for sure.
